ABSTRACT

Certain species of cyanobacterial are recognzed to cause hygienic problems. These metabolities produced by cyanobacteria are called cyanotoxins. These are naturally produced poision by certain species of cyanobacteria found in both fresh and marine waters world wide. Chemically these toxins are mainly of three types: cyclic peptide, alkaloids and lipopolysaccharides. But till today biosynthetic pathway of their production is not known. In India there has been no report of adverse health effect of cyanotoxins. it is thus essential are of research in the forthcoming years.
