ABSTRACT

The effect of administration of different doses of Annona squamosa, Strychnos nuxvomica and Acacia nilotica extracts in normal and alloxan induced diabetic rats on blood glucose levels were measured at 0, 2, 4 and 6 hours after the treatment. The extracts of all the plant species at a dosage of 0.75g/kg of body weight was found effective. The blood glucose levels decreased from 2nd to 6th hour in the treated animals compared to control. These results suggest that the extracts of all the three plant species show antidiabetic effects in alloxan-induced diabetic rats being maximum in S. nux-vomica and minimum in A. squamosa.
