ABSTRACT

Twenty species of locusts and grasshoppers representing 12 genera and 7 subfamilies belonging to the families Pyrgomorphidae, Catantopidae and Acrididae are reported from twenty localities of Murzuq region, Fezzan. Localities surveyed and distribution of each species collected from Murzuk region are discussed. Their distinguishing characters and economic importance are given. Bio-ecological data on the species and their relationship with vegetation are also provided. A key to the genera examined is provided. Anacridium m. melanorhodon, Eyprepocnernis plorans, Sphingonotus obscuratus and Ochrilidia tibialis are new to the fauna of Fezzan, Libya. Fifteen species are recorded for the first time from Murzuq region.
