BIOCHEMICAL PROFILE OF CASSIA SPECIES IN VIVO AND IN VITRO

ABSTRACT

Whole plants and seedling-callus of Cassia occidentalis, C. obtusifolia and C.italica, and the aerial parts only of C.siamea were used to evaluate for their primary metabolites viz. carbohydrates (total soluble sugars, starch), ascorbic acid, phenols, proteins, lipids, pigments (chlorophylls, carotenoids) and nucleic acids (DNA,RNA) by following the established protocols and the profile of these metabolites were computed by respective regression curves.
