ABSTRACT

The antidiabetic activity of ethnolic extract of Strychnos potatorum on blood glucose and insulin and lipid metabolism components in alloxan induced diabetic rats was studied. A significant reduction was observed in fasting blood glucose levels in the treated diabetic rats. Strychnos potatorum treatment showed considerable regulation of lipid metabolism in the long term treated diabetic group. There was significant improvement in blood glucose, plasma insulin levels in treated diabetic rats to normal with Strychnos potatorum extract. These results suggest that the Strychnos potatorum root powder possesses antidiabetic property in alloxan induced diabetic rats.
