ABSTRACT

Studies on the bionomics of leaf defoliator, Papilio polytes romulus Cramer on Curry leaf plant, Murraya koenigii under laboratory conditions revealed that eggs were spherical, creamy with surface smoothly flattened. The incubation period of the egg was 3.0-3.5 days. There were five larval instars and length of completely developed larva was 45.0 mm and larval period was 12.5-15.5 days. The pre-pupal and pupal period was 0.75-1.25 days and 9.0-10.0 days respectively. Total life cycle period was completed in 26.0 -28.0 days. Longevity of adult was 6.0-7.0 days. Caterpillars cause enormous loss to curry leaf plantations by defoliating the leaves of shoot of the host plant.
