ABSTRACT

To assess the nutritional and lipid profile in extreme conditions of malnutrition in rural women, longitudinal descriptive study was performed at 6 villages in Chandragiri Mandal, Chittoor District of A. P. A statistically suitable random sample of 120 women distributed as 40 women in each nutritional state formed the subjects of the study. The dietary data was collected and haemoglobin and lipids were estimated by standard procedures and the data was statistically analyzed. There is a significant variation in all the nutrient intakes for the women in the three differing nutritional states. The mean values of haemoglobin were below the normal. The cholesterol and triglycerides values were within the desirable range in three groups of women. There was a significant difference between the groups at (p<0.05) in haemoglobin and (p<0.01) in cholesterol. BMI showed significant correlation with major nutrients like energy, protein, fat and haemoglobin when all groups combined.
