ABSTRACT

The present investigation was carried out to study the comparative effect of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) on wheat primary leaves. From the results it is clear that control leaf segments showed more activities of whole chain electron transport (WCE), photosystem (PS) II and I than Cd and Pb treated leaf segments. PS II activity decreased more compared to PS I activity in both the treatments. Cd and Pb showed a concentration dependent inhibition in WCE, PS II and PS I activity. Our results clearly showed that the Cd is potent inhibitor of thylakoid photochemical activities than Pb in wheat.
